GOP Lies About Job Creating Motive

The GOP is currently trying to pass a law that will neuter unions
They have the gall to say they are creating jobs
The law they propose would make outsourcing jobs abroad
A permissible act
So if workers should wish to get a raise
The company could move to China
Or wherever
The GOP has yet to propose anything that will create a single job
Oh by the way the GOP law seeks to decide a matter currently before a court of law
This makes the GOP not only untruthful but brazen as well
The GOP is acting with impunity
We need an Obama Congress
And a fighting Obama
Now

Psychology can teach us nothing of the nature of feeling

"... psychology can teach us nothing of the nature of feeling, nor can we gain knowledge of any feeling by introspection, the feeling being completely veiled from introspection, for the very reason that it is our immediate consciousness” (CP 1.310, 1907)."

The Default Method of Achieving The Future

Sprawl World: The missing ingredient is brains:

Sometimes I think we will collapse into the future
As the car-centric sprawl society reveals its manifest vulnerabilities
The natural tendencies of human beings will begin to reassert themselves
The virtue of walking over riding
The virtue of proximity over distance
The virtue of quality over quantity
And do forth
The the link above suggests that the collapse of malls
Could be such a an event

The missing ingredient is brains

A sustainable development plan for Corpus Christi » Corpus Christi Caller-Times: "CORPUS CHRISTI — A transformational redevelopment of Sunrise Mall, one of the topics at Tuesday's City Council meeting, would be SO cool. Who wouldn't want a thriving, pedestrian-friendly commercial-residential mix instead of a long-struggling early 1980s-style shopping center? The council didn't discuss who would do the redeveloping. Profitability, a proven developer attractant, may be a missing ingredient."

The premise is great. At least it's a start. But the missing ingredient is the holistic thinking part. How do you actually make a community' that will abolish today's car-dominated stratification. I would argue you do it by completely redoing construction as outlined in my developing blog Beyond Pattern Language.

Atlanta rewards no car families with terrible public transportation, if any

New Report: Atlanta Has Worst Transit Coverage for ‘Zero-Vehicle Households’ | INFRASTRUCTURIST:

"At the same time, more than 700,000 of the “zero-vehicle households” in the metro regions analyzed by Brookings don’t have any access to transit at all. The worst offender among major metro areas is the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta region, where nearly 38,000 households have neither a car nor good transit access. All told, Atlanta’s “zero-vehicle household” transit coverage rate is 68.5 percent — well below the other major cities that rounded out the top five: Dallas (71 percent), Houston (73), Phoenix (81) and St. Louis (82)."

This is one of the best arguments yet for cyber communities

"'Message from my friend Pip: The thing I really struggle with as a parent at the start of the C21st is just how present and essential I am to their social life. I resent being their social secretary and taxi driver - if I haven't phoned someone up, made plans, gone to school in the car so I have the means to bring friends home, my kids don't see other kids. I don't have time to work!"

Divide dense areas into walkable communities with schools dispersed among them. Add in businesses and end today's car-based zoning. A cyber-community needs at least 5,000 or so to make it financially viable to have shared eco-systems. But this movement can begin now as people insist that the present drive-centered life is a bust.

How We Can Win The War Within

Winning The War Within Collected Sonnets: Thirty-Five Give us - Abba you give us everything: "Thirty-Five Give us - Abba you give us everything"

There is a war within us all
Between our rising and our fall
Jesus takes us past these two sides
Enabling us to ride life's tides
As spectrum not as either or
With Abba all we're living for

Following Jesus is no walk in the park

Windows on The Bible: Sixty Great Expectations: "Compare the early church to today's churches and you'll have a rough idea of the distance we would need to travel even to approach meeting the searing mandate of Matthew 10."

In essence the same loyalty is required of us that is required of someone who is in the military. What is different is that the call is to prevent and oppose all conscious acceptance of lethal means as a solution to human problems.

A tiny window on the late 19th century (Fiction Memoir)

The Complete History of Adam Panflick:

"It only took this son of a half-blind, former slave and bookmaker two decades to join the outer circle of American Robber Barons, men whose monopolistic distribution of essential goods and services created massive wealth. Stanley’s net worth did not reach that of his contemporaries John Rockefeller or Jay Gould, but he did very well indeed, with the help of an elder brother, Martin, who followed him to Cleveland and showed considerable aptitude in selling coal, oil, real estate, meat, cemeteries and the like."

Rachel Maddow's Salient Truth Problem

Peircelets: We are, doubtless, in the main logical animals, but we are not perfectly so: "We are, doubtless, in the main logical animals, but we are not perfectly so"

Rachel Maddow is quite correct to note that the GOP proceeds on false reasoning. If the premise or premiss (Peirce) is not true - as many propositions GOP Presidential candidates agree upon - then any conclusions will be untrue, regardless of their political appeal. The media should be doing this homework. I notice that the NYT actually did have an inside story on GOP falsehood. Most probably, the GOP's addiction to untruth relates to the fact that President Obama has offered them a bill filled with things the GOP has advocated in the past. They should by all rights be supporting the President and the clear majority of voters throughout the land. A visit to Maplight.com to peruse their contributions will show why they do not.

We are, doubtless, in the main logical animals, but we are not perfectly so

The Fixation of Belief:

"We are, doubtless, in the main logical animals, but we are not perfectly so. Most of us, for example, are naturally more sanguine and hopeful than logic would justify. We seem to be so constituted that in the absence of any facts to go upon we are happy and self-satisfied; so that the effect of experience is continually to contract our hopes and aspirations. Yet a lifetime of the application of this corrective does not usually eradicate our sanguine disposition. Where hope is unchecked by any experience, it is likely that our optimism is extravagant. Logicality in regard to practical matters (if this be understood, not in the old sense, but as consisting in a wise union of security with fruitfulness of reasoning) is the most useful quality an animal can possess, and might, therefore, result from the action of natural selection; but outside of these it is probably of more advantage to the animal to have his mind filled with pleasing and encouraging visions, independently of their truth; and thus, upon unpractical subjects, natural selection might occasion a fallacious tendency of thought."

The Beatitudinal Way

Original Biblical Songs: Beatitudes Song: "Listen to The Beatitudes Song MP3"

The Beatitudinal way is Abba's Way - when you practice the four values of Abba's Way - helpfulness, tolerance, democracy and non-idolatry. The Beatitudes are Jesus' definition of the characteristics of happiness, the virtues of the realist who understands that the first sign of all was the sign from which is derived the reality of Jesus and of Abba's Way. That they bump up against the world of opposing values is every reason to practice them. Hitting the blunt truths of desecration, hypocrisy and greed is par for the course. We think triadically and therefor move beyond sign and blunt truth to experientially test solutions that might advance history a bit. It is a communal process, fallible but worthy.

A task so large that almost no one dares to parse it

Obama's Way: An unsure nation awaits an Obama sign:

"Speak the truth
And only go with those who believe in
Walking
And restoring
Face to face community"

Some speak of a God beyond God

New Tao Posts: The Tao refuses every word for God:

The conundrum of spirituality is the sense that we can ruin things
By our speech
Our formulas
Our theories
But it is simpler really than all that
We do best not to speak too much at all
Especially presuming to speak of the One
Who said to Moses only I am I
Who Jesus called Abba
And some know as the Tao

The Tao refuses every word for God

The Tao refuses every word for God
Neither beyond above below beside
Think of the Tao as all in all
A surging power a cleansing tide

I believe your hearts are hardened.

Markman: A Film About Jesus:

"MILLER: And what is your complaint? I don't see --

DAVID: (Impatient) Look around.

Camera sweeps to take in the signs of corporate affluence in sanctuary. High end TV cameras for broadcasting services, expensive stained glass in profusion, a huge chart detailing donations, velvet pew cushions and stacks of brass offering plates.

The pulpit rises some twenty-five feet and is reached by a gilt staircase that winds around its base. The pulpit itself is a travesty in plastic and gilt. It's main feature is a moveable ELECTRONIC BIBLE which has a flashing sign facing the congregation noting the texts which the preacher punches in. The texts are flashed onto various TV monitors. When it is not operating, the sign simply flashes, on and off, the legend: GOD'S WORD.

MALCOLM: What do you believe, Mr. Markman?

Long pause.

DAVID: I believe your hearts are hardened. That you are not hungry or thirsty. That you are not crying. And that it suppertime."

Pseudoradical critics

The Grass Roots Church:

"Look behind any successful march or picket line, the paradigm for open-throttled action in the world today, and you will find leadership, co-ordination, planning, phone calls-in short, a highly professional organization. The pseudoradical critics also fail to see that the Church in American society today represents institutional power. It has money, staff, buildings, investments. The genuine revolutionary, as opposed to the mere adventurist, will want to take these resources over, not just ignore them. One allegedly radical Christian had this brought forcibly to his attention when he was delivering a fiery denunciation of church buildings, declaring that if he had his way he would burn them all down and thus force the people of God to live an exposed existence in the world. Just as he finished, a Mississippi Negro rose and said that the only people he knew who wanted to burn churches down were the Ku Klux Klan." - Harvey Cox

The Alternate World in Which We Live

The alternate world in which we live
The world of cars and oil and sprawl
It doesn't function as a real world should
We get gridlocked become loud-spoken fall

It is not going back to move beyond
It is restoring our communal bond
We will create a synthesis
And gain a new world well past this

Jesus defines his crime in rhyme

Abba's Way:

"I’d but to say I act with Abba’s power
To be killed at the hands of enemies.
And so to death upon the cross I went,
And then to legend and theology;
And now to sentimental, feel good, praise:
Select a text and focus all on me!
I came to simply say Abba is near,
Repent, believe, this is the good news now.
And Abba will live happily within ..."
