Joran van der Sloot mystery remains - a lost link

Joran van der Sloot is a mystery. Joran van der Sloot is a pariah. But was Joran van der Sloot involved with human trafficking?

After some time, I have run upon one thoughtful piece that delves into the question of whether Joran van der Sloot was operating as part of or in relationship to the noxious trade of human trafficking.

I am sure some will say this is supposition and I suppose it is. But I have never read anything that at least sought to construct a tenable reason for the actions of this young man.

I refer you to the full text of the article referenced below.

Whoops the article has gone the way of too many things online.

I shall however leave the question open. The evidence seems to amply prove Joran's capacity and inclination to kill. But tro have done so without some larger motive seems problematic.  This is the century in which trafficking must become a thing of the past.

A soccer craze is on the way

A soccer craze is on the way It will soon sweep the USA What is a soccer craze good for My answer better that than war
Veblen was the last sociologist to take a serious look at this connection. Perhaps the last to understand that original sin need not be a religious doctrine, just the way things are regardless of how it got started.Late events in Egypt suggest that war and soccer are sometimes one and the same..

My Donald Trump Problem

I have this problem with Donald Trump. He may not be real. He may be a bad dream. A figment of my worst imaginings.

To exist is to have integrity. I mean that spark that lives inside all sentient beings. I would not deny the same to Trump but I would need to look him in the eye to see.
It would come down to who he really is.

Is the NYT helping abort an Iran raid?

Iran Raid Seen as Complex Task for Israeli Military - NYTimes.com: "WASHINGTON — Should Israel decide to launch a strike on Iran, its pilots would have to fly more than 1,000 miles across unfriendly airspace, refuel in the air en route, fight off Iran’s air defenses, attack multiple underground sites simultaneously — and use at least 100 planes."

Looks like the NYT, still penitent from ginning up the Iraq war, is acting for our government today by discouraging an Israel attack on Iran.

Google's Driver-Free Car Is Not Smart

Even if the device works, it perpetuates the ascendency of the automobile.

If Google wants to lead, build a car-free community - of 10,000 persons.

No planning that sees the car dominant over time is smart.

I am not knocking education

I am not knocking education
But take a look at history
It wasn't how much math you knew
Values create morality

Yes what is lacking is a discussion of universal values which when agreed to would constitute a universal underpinning of education

Agreement should not be difficult because the values of tolerance helpfulness democracy and non-idolatry are a distillation of universals each of which bears good within itself

They work interactively to create iconoclastic human beings who do not cave in to social and cultural idolatries and who venerate helping others and being open to diversity and defending the human rights of all persons

Education needs to consider whether it is a violation of religious freedom to propound these values

I think not

At best a quatrain works to set minds free

Why write quatrains they're short and salient Four lines one thought a taste of poetry Art is the antidote to war and hate At best a quatrain works to set minds free

A plant that once made automobiles.

The World Beyond Cars - speculative fiction: Last Morning: "Bellingham got up early. He never failed to notice the play in the surface below his feet when he got up in the morning. Footsteps now could contribute to the powering of the world. Each step he took on the thin surface - what was once the floor but which was now all sides of all spaces - activated tiny sensors that cumulatively created energy. Outside on the walkway the same play existed. The strength of the surface exceeded that of what used to be called walls. Soundproof. Fireproof. Replaceable. They came from a plant that once made automobiles."

Slowly but surely it grows.

When intelligence was unintelligent

WikiLeaks Documents: China's Google Hack, UN Spying, More Secrets - The Daily Beast: "Clinton wanted diplomats to snoop out credit-card numbers, frequent-flier details, schedules, email addresses, cellphone numbers, and even DNA of the members of the U.N. Security Council, according to the documents.

Snooping is a waste of time
And most probably a crime
Hillary should be ashamed
Condi also bears the blame

Actually 12 Years Later Supreme Court Anniversary of Shame

Bush v. Gore, 10 Years Later - The Daily Beast: "The case set a more general and pernicious precedent: the casting aside of judicial restraint and deference to states' rights in favor of partisan politics. Despite decrying judicial activism, conservative justices, led by one of Bush's lawyers in the Florida recount debacle, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., have been eager to overturn the work of legislatures when it comes to guns, campaign finance, and environmental protection.

Pernicious precedent is the apt phrase to speak
Judicial crime done by our highest court
Strong words to speak a clarifying truth

A Note on Smart Surfaces

ShortFormContent at Blogger: Why Yesterday's Construction Technology Must Go:

Smart surfaces would make soundproofing that was paper thin Smart surfaces would generate energy with use Smart surfaces would respond to verbal commands Smart surfaces would have the capacity to retain heat within an area or to ventilate/cool the same area Smart surfaces would be built to standards that essentially enable mass production and universal use Smart surfaces can be transported and assembled with ease Smart surfaces are the spatial boundaries in a cyber-community that is built on a grid-skeleton which is capable of supporting smart surfaces So that the cyber-community is made of an eco-grid and smart surfaces Bottom surfaces would all be capable of generating power resulting from foot traffic Side surfaces would be capable of most functions that today require extensive connectivity Some top surfaces would be able to capture rain Smart surfaces cannot be created with to…
