But you stand upright, Abba at your side

You leave convention and self-interest,
Your leaves are made to move to finer winds;
You operate by bedrock sentiments
And draw conclusions based on Abba’s Way.
Your branches will not bow to emperors,
Your boards will not build cathedrals and shrines;
The principalities and powers arise,
But you stand upright, Abba at your side

This is the sort of reason to which nobody pays any mind

Presidential Debates, Citizens United, and the Politics of Media : The New Yorker: "Wouldn’t it be a canny move, as well as a daring and imaginative one, for the current President to propose something similar this fall, to—well, to Mitt Romney, presumably? If Romney declined, no harm done, except maybe to him. If he said yes, the public interest would be well served (and the partnership would make it a little harder for either side to conduct a parallel campaign of Super PAC slanders). No more debates? No. More debates."

How Romney and McCain Became Basket Cases

Both Romney and McCain were rock-ribbed conservatives before they became identified as progressive or centrist Republicans.
Both Romney and McCain were wrung through the litmus tests of the radical right and found wanting.
Instead of pivoting and saying NOT THIS TIME, they caved and sold their souls.
The penalty was to become visibly wounded and unable to hold their head up without turning a bilious color. McCain turned a pasty white. Romney a sickening green.
It is this dynamic that explains why McCain and Romney are basket cases.

Tons of Occupied News Focus on Oakland

Including:

#The fallout from #J28 continued to reverberate, as video has emerged proving the Oakland police department – which may soon be placed into federal control for failing to expel its violent elements – has been blatantly lying about its treatment of activists during demonstrations.

#The mainstream media is now portraying the movement as split over tactics and conflicted about the role of black bloc affinity groups in direct actions. While these issues – like every other issue – are continually debated within the movement, portrayals of Occupy as divisible were met with widespread backlash.

#It emerged that Occupy Oakland activists were being held in inhumane conditions at the Santa Rita and Glenn Dyer jails. This echoes reports of Occupy LAactivists being denied food and water following their arrests in December.

And much more at the initial link above.

There are - fortunately - terms that transcend "profession"

What is a profession ? What is a professional group ?:

"A profession is the result of acquiring a remunerative expertise and obtaining the right to designate oneself x or y. This has no necessary relationship to being in a group. Nietzsche was trained and employed as a philologist, but it did not last long and he would now be grouped among philosophers and writers despite the almost complete solitude that was his lot in life. A professional group may or may not have professionals of one stripe (as in a law firm). Universities have groups that are themselves a collection of varied specializations. There are - fortunately - terms that transcend "profession" - writer, thinker, intellectual. A good example of a person who never had formal academic training is the late Erik Erickson."

Final Draft of Panflick History Commences

The Complete History of Adam Panflick: Someone chanced to softly say while passing by, “Good exegesis”:

"The library in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, is quite attractive to the ordinary tourist who might enter its lofty doors to seek out some sage novel by David Helpern or Louis de Berniers. But I was not going there in search of a read. Or for the experience of a tourist. I was there for the Panflick archives, if they may be called that.

Adam Panflick had dumped several cartons of his writings and other things in a dank basement there back in 1980, the year he left Ganya Mede for good. These were woefully incomplete. Adam had already destroyed huge amounts of written material prior to the final dump."

I have begun to create what one hopes will be a final draft of The Complete History of Adam Panflick. There being already eight books of some ten to fourteen chapters each, I am not holding my breath.

The Alito Difference

Larry McCarthy, Mitt Romney, and Restore Our Future Super PAC : The New Yorker: "When Samuel Alito replaced Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court, in 2006, the balance started shifting in favor of deregulating political spending. The next year, the Court sanctioned unlimited, secret spending on “issues” ads, as long as they didn’t directly endorse or oppose a candidate, and as long as the primary purpose of the group making them was “educational” rather than political. Once the Court opened a path for unlimited anonymous money, it flooded in."

NYC closes senior centers for this?

NYC is littered with street sweepers
The video below approximates these loud and ineffective devices
They roll around midtown Manhattan in two's and threes
Early morning
Accomplishing nothing
Followed by an official in a car
I suggest these expensive dinosaurs be transported to Afghanistan where they might just
Intimidate the Taliban into submission

Larry McCarthy, Mitt Romney and Public Revulsion

Larry McCarthy, Mitt Romney, and Restore Our Future Super PAC : The New Yorker:

Larry McCarthy all on one page
If Mitt ever told the truth
Larry as his PACman
Cures him of that

This long term attack dog
Tells lies that stick
To sink Dukakis or Newt
Take your pick

Let us celebrate
Whenever
The work of these brethren
Yields up public revulsion

Voter Suppression on Steroids in South Carolina

http://ping.fm/YirAF

Under the Radar: South Carolina Rushes Through Yet another Voter Suppression Bill » Blog of Rights: Official Blog of the American Civil Liberties Union: "This time, the legislature is rushing through a law that will severely restrict community-based voter registration drives. House Bill 4549, modeled after a Florida law that forced the League of Women Voters and other civic organizations to abandon voter registration efforts in the state, would effectively shut down community-based voter registration drives in South Carolina, requiring any individual or organization to register with the state before assisting other South Carolinians in registering to vote, and subjecting those individuals or organizations to up to $1,000 in fines, even for honest mistakes like sending the forms to the wrong county or not putting enough postage on the envelopes."
