The Mythological Bipartisan Council of Mega Brains

A few premises one might consider
when we finally assemble mega experts

A mega-shift that is needed
to recast
a society so stratified that it is laughable
a sprawl that even now lapses into decay
a policy of zoning that only aids stratification
a construction industry that is retro and riddled with corruption
an economy that has no relation to life on the ground

A mega shift to create models of communities
where having a vital local economy is the starting point
where living
working and recreating
and educating
takes place in the same walkable area
where cars and other fossil-fuel suicide machines
are peripheral
designed to recede
not to rule the roost

I shall stop here because I lose people
when I start to actually explain
But at least give me the benefit of your doubt
And if you think this makes sense
follow the labels

Cars and houses and uncertainty

Retail sales disappoint - Dec. 13, 2011: "The disappointing numbers do not bode well for retailers that depend on strong holiday sales -- despite a recent wave of optimism in the industry."

'via Blog this'

Cars are not being bought because we have not yet answered the question of the future of the car. Goods for house living are not being bought because we are confused about the current realities of real estate and the future of sprawl society as we know it. These are formidable confusions that segue with a growing awareness that the deck is stacked - along with what seems systemic unemployment we have income stagnation or recession as the political system struggles to rid itself of the dominant influences - all of which support the car, sprawl and inequality. Does that do it for you? It should create the slight hint of an agenda.

How Well Do Seniors Like The Computerizing of Cars?

Honda recalling 1.5 million vehicles to update software that controls automatic transmission - The Washington Post

I turned in my license recently
I was old enough to stop being on the road behind a wheel
And I was intimidated by all the buttons and other complexities I sensed on new models
I also dislike the over complexification and overloading of software programs and other computer functions in general
I just wonder how long this can go on
We have an entire generation of people who will soon be my age and who probably should be off the road
I think the Millennials are more inclined to my alienation than to ads that appeal to the rah rah car people
I think the the US has sold its soul to oil and sprawl and will reap the whirlwind
I see nothing but social wreckage
So when I hear ads that disgust me on TV with macho voices challenging me to be up to a Cadillac
I get into my hate and despise mode
If that is our culture I do not live here
And so far I can live with that choice
I am waiting for the scales to tip

Why The Automobile is Moribund

The automobile is moribund because they dictate the design of our environment and our environment is unsustainable
We need to move toward greater concentrations of population living economically in secure environments that are mainly walkable
Work and home need not be in the same place but should be within the boundaries of  living area
Today's zoning is sadly subservient to the car
The cost of cars and fuel will become prohibitive
Motor vehicle casualties and deaths worldwide compete with wars and epidemics but are largely ignored
Car free communities could come into existence with little effort but would generate many new jobs and industries
Car free communities could be the basis of a huge global economy as the oil runs out or becomes prohibitively expensive

Right and Christ did not run a clinic devoted to getting government grants and skewering the least and lost

Marcus Bachmann Looking Gay — BagNews: "“Christ is the Almighty Counselor.”– Marcus Bachmann (from Bachmann & Assoc. counseling website)" While we heap coals of fire on Marcus Bachmann and say that he looks gay, let us consider that the most pressing problem we have today is not that there are such people acting with consummate hypocrisy but that we fiddle while Rome quietly burns a degree at a time. The longer we rely on oil ant the car the less difference it makes what Marcus Bachmann looks like or who is President or what we eat for breakfast.

China's mistake is already written in stone and the rest of the world shares in it

New China Will Be Red and Expert - Truthdig: "But unrestrained capitalist development has its downsides. The Chinese readily admit the damage their economic expansion has done to the environment." China could have said no to more roads, more cars and more environmental disaster. The most conspicuous thing about China is that it did not think as smart as it is. The world as a whole is embarked on the creation of endless sprawl based on a con that was created when oil and automobiles proved to have the capacity to generate wealth beyond dreaming due to the gullibility of humankind. Since this scam is terminal, the crash will be universal. China leads nowhere at the moment.

Obama Energy Proposal Is A Well Intended Error

The solution to the energy crisis is not a global auto industry with cars that get up to 60mpg. In the unlikely event that the Obama plan for a massive industry shift toward small and conserving passes, even in part, the day will merely be postponed when mutiplying cars is understood to be the problem not the answer. Had the President proposed a fifty percent reduction in cars and that Detroit make lego-like spaces in which we might live in the future, he would have been deemed crazy, but he would have been right. He joins the group of the well-intentioned who thought Nader was doing us a favor by helping legitimize the automobile with his safety mantras.

Car Death in the Desert Followup

Deadly off-road accident in Mojave spurs lawsuits: "At issue will be how much responsibility the owners of the land (the federal government) have for what happened, how much responsibility the organizers of the race (Mojave Desert Racing) will bear, and how much blame, if any, Sloppy should shoulder." Sorry there is no followup. As usual this stuff falls off the page and gets stirred into the pot of continual deaths related to the uses of automobiles and related vehicles. If you have followup please indicate.

Cars Do More Damage than Cigarettes

FDA Unveils New Cigarette Warnings - The Daily Beast: "Human corpses, black lungs and rotting teeth were among the graphic new images unveiled by the Food and Drug Administration Tuesday."

When will we start a campaign around the millions of motor vehicle deaths and injuries? My guess the answer lies in the current economic crisis which extends to the outlandish expectation that we can and will afford the present economic bleeding inherent in car ownership and commuting and obsolete zoning.
