Why Triadic Philosophy Makes the Most Sense

DAWN

The more I delve into
academic languages and philosophies,
the more convinced I am
that Triadic Philosophy
makes the most sense.
Here are three main reasons.

1.

We desperately need an agreed basis for thinking,
one that transcends disciplines, is not dependent
on reductive theories
and that accepts certain basic premises,
explicitly the utility of
an open triadic pattern.
for the ethical and aesthetic
achievement of
pragmaticist results.

2.

Hitherto we have not had
a universal philosophy that
explicitly declares a reasonable hierarchy for
carrying out thought processes,
subject to the caveats in 1 above.

3.

Triadic Philosophy is an open source
mechanism for universal thought
whose hierarchy embraces
universality itself
in the Root Triad
Reality
Ethics
Aesthetics

Think in Threes

PUSH PULL

Think in Threes

Thinking is a willed process.
Much of our action does not require thought.
It is habit, learned first by thought,
then accomplished without it.

All thinking is willed.
That means there is a free decision
only we can make,
that we will train our minds on
some aspect of Reality.
It could be as insignificant as a
view down the street.
It becomes thought at the instant that
it is considered, turned over,
admitted to zones within us
where thinking gets done.
Triadic Philosophy suggests
three such zones, hence
that we think in threes.
That view down the street
might become a work of art.
Accepted by us as such,
the result of this thinking.

I have described a gentle
process of movement from Sign
to Index to Symbol,
if one wishes to make semiosis of
a simple event.

In Triadic Philosophy the root triad,
Reality, Ethics and Aesthetics,
comes with a set of simple rules
for thinking that aspires to
achieve truth and beauty,
which is to say
the aim of life.
The starting point is simply to think.
The payoff is thinking in threes.

Triadic Philosophy - Where 1 2 3 Works and When It Does Not

Charles Sanders Peirce spent
a life of reasonable length
elaborating what he always thought.
He thought, among other things, that
we move forward
and that we are social,
collaborative sorts.

Foundationally, Peirce thought 1 2 3,
that is to say, in threes.
And he structured the categories
at the heart of philosophy
as First Second and Third.
By the time Peirce elaborated everything,
he had a truckload of triads
and a massive fleet of elaborations.

Peirce did not think
we are ciphers who will
follow even such a one as he.
He thought we might build on
his notions, as folk for two thousand years
built on Aristotle -
to the detriment of ethics,
as Aristotle lacked a proper value system.

Now it is Promethian and unnecessary
to so immerse ourselves in
Peirce's Threes
that we end up arguing about
what he may have meant
as a twenty year old
or as a seventy year old.
He might say
I am  merely pointing
to what an ordinary sort might infer
from living life.
Peirce said many things in passing that are,
for the rock-ribbed quasi-nativist he was,
oddly democratic, oddly tolerant,
oddly helpful
and most certainly non-idolatrous.

The utility of 1 2 3,
if Peirce is right,
(and he is)
is we can (and do)
all work creatively
to evolve reality,
trying daily to get things right.

So, yes, read and benefit from Peirce.
But, more than that, use your bean.
Conjure up more of the magic he was on to.

Triadic Philosophy - Our Three Separate Universes

+
Triadic Philosophy thinks in threes
Reality Ethics Aesthetics
This initial triad serves to anchor
an endless flow of triads that refer back
in some way to the implicit beginning point
Reality
The inevitable  challenge to Reality is Ethics
The active and measurable
and apposite effort to materialize a response
in the world is
Aesthetics
+
Triadic Philosophy accepts three separate universes
First
The first the universe that is contiguous with the self
Our common universe as structured individually
 as consciousness or bodymind
We often take this first to be our only universe
It is in fact the theater of Reality's progress
through Ethics to Aesthetic realization
Ultimately
What is achieved in this universe individually and collectively is
the making of  progress in history
Second
The second universe is our proof that there is
something out there that is not us
It is the blunt truth that we take to be real
It IS real
It defies those philosophic premises that limit
reality to consciousness
It is resilient matter stuff rock tables mountains oceans
It summons the individual to explore
to exploit
to contemplate
to represent
to understand
to befriend
It is what exists within our gravitational field
Third
The third universe is beyond our capacities
to fathom
though it is the object of countless
assertions
It presents us with an existential reason to remain
humble in the face of mystery
It invites humility
or if you prefer iconoclasm
+
Idolatry takes many forms
but among the most common is the
tendency to shrink universes
and see things in terms literally
 at odds with Reality
It takes only a bit of common sense to
accept the truth in the three universes described here

How Should The East Coast Prepare for the Inevitable

+
Until we move from binary to triadic thinking
from pragmatism to pragmaticism
from proselytizing to universalism
we will be doomed to make the wrong decisions
and celebrate them as master achievements
Thus Manhattan contemplates building
big flood blockades
that will protect Wall Street and inundate Brooklyn
or some such silliness
+
The brutal truth is that we are already doomed to
an ongoing deluge and will
be doomed to the current painful agonies
until we answer affirmative to the following proposition
The solution to flooding and tidal inundation
is to either create or move to higher ground
and build our dwellings there
+
The pragmaticist obligation
is to stop lavishing attention on the sexy notion
of  diverting future tidal inundations
with monstrous blockades
(the binary way)
and instead to assume
that any level above an anticipated inundation level
is the level at which it is safe to create places to be occupied
by children and women and men and pets
From this premise many fine premises can be elaborated
+
IMAGE
Top First is the Sign of Unity in Diversity
Second is the cold reality of our penchant for inundation
Third is the happy intended result of a creative
collision of First and Second
issuing in
specific new solutions to
the problem of higher ground

The logician need not decide if there is such a thing as reality

We cannot hide from ourselves that there are objects
very nearly like real things
We are obliged to suppose that there is knowledge
embodied in some form
and that there is inference
and that
one embodiment of knowledge
affects another

I see in this parsing of Feibleman on Peirce 1969 83-84
a clear suggestion of Peircean threes
and one of the remarkable instances in which
the wonder of Peirce can be apprehended
The key word for me is suppose
After suppose in the text comes the parenthetical
("it need not assert")
a delicious reminder of the degree of
supposition (vagueness, musement) involved in all thinking

We all are reasoners from cradle to the grave

We all are reasoners from cradle to the grave
Our suppositions are not true until they're proved
And even then no truth is but a temporary fix

Joplin Tornado Exemplified Need for Peircean Journalism

Updated February 16, 2012

Joplin Tornado: Shocking Photos & Videos of Destruction in Missouri - The Daily Beast : "A tornado set down in Joplin, Missouri, on Sunday, killing 90 people. The disastrous storm took a path that was a mile wide at some points, and emergencies have been declared on both the state and local level. According to the NOAA, the Joplin twister is the deadliest single tornado since 1953."

I think news just took a u-turn. People literally make the news now. People are cameras and sound. The money used to send a zillion reporters everywhere is wasted.

The job of reporting should make a u-turn into Peirce thirds. That is a kind of thinking. Moving past binary to looking for serious solutions based on 1. what happened and 2. what challenge it illuminates. 3. therefore we will experiment by ...

With video's like these there is no need for professionals on scene.

Charles Sanders Peirce - A Collection of Threes

Threes contain monads and dyads

Triads for thought

Triangles being infinitely expandable

The first is the vague and undefinable reality
The second somehow modifies and adds to the first
The third brings the first and second to a point of action
