Freud's cocaine problem and the War on Drugs

For more than a decade Freud was a cokehead and then he discovered analysis and gave it up. The inference might be that drugs screw up mental processes, and that inference is largely correct. Freud wised up and kicked the habit. Now I am a proponent of zapping our War on Drugs and legalizing most of what we now jail people for. Legalization is vastly different than condoning. Legalazation is a gateway to making the use of drugs subject to medical regulation. It does not eliminate all possible criminality. But it eliminates the currently lethal operation of the drug business.
