We are worse than cave people. I attribute it to the sort of individualism attributable to nominalism and Descartes. We need to think more of the community social evolution and planning weather-resistant forms of construction that cluster the folk currently in dispersed single dwellings into populations that can sustain economies, enjoy diversity and become largely car-free. But that would actually be thinking progress, right?
