I would say the President recovers handily

It's hard to see where the president goes from here."

First: Republicans have no nominee they believe in.

Second: Obama in his speech finally defines his GOP sympathetic centrism in terms millions understand.

Third: The unwillingness of GOP to compromise becomes a killer albatross around their already vulnerable neck. The party either walks in lockstep off the cliff or compromises. Either way the Obama fortunes begin an inexorable march up. Leaving the pundits trying to say that isn't really egg on their face.
