The industrialized nations made a terrible mistake

Carfree Cities: Introduction: "The industrialized nations made a terrible mistake when they turned to the automobile as an instrument of improved urban mobility. The car brought with it major unanticipated consequences for urban life and has become a serious cause of environmental, social, and aesthetic problems in cities. "

I would not say the car was the villain
There will always be roads and vehicles
But there need not always be sprawl
Dispersion of people beyond anything we have experienced
No we can come together and shelve the zoning
that would separate schools from houses and shops from homes
and workplaces from where we live
No we will gather closer and recover face to face
And learn the wonders of good public space
We will recreate the dreams of Jane Jacobs
In the reconstituted megasphere
