Supreme Court ethics? They have conflicts of interest?

Democrats Seek to Impose Tougher Supreme Court Ethics - NYTimes.com: "House Democrats, seeking to capitalize on recent questions about the political leanings of several Supreme Court justices, are pushing for toughened ethics standards that would hold the justices on the high court to the same judicial requirements as federal judges."

Wonder who they have in mind?

You won't find much direction for Yahoo here

4 chiefs, 4 years: Yahoo's leadership problem | ZDNet:

The post above marches in place. Maybe Yahoo will consider my idea. Corner the market on decent free lance and amateur writers. They already have a start in that direction. Simply pay them better than anyone else which will be a snap because Arianna over at AOL is famous for paying people nada. By cornering writers and turning them into a well-schooled and well-paid force, Yahoo could create an identity and rule the local market.

Getting the sin thing straight

When Jesus talks about sinners he does not mean everyone
He means people whose consciences are troubled because they have stolen
Or lied or committed adultery or otherwise violated the commandments
He is ironical about the non-sinners
But there are numerous people who really have not transgressed
To these Jesus simply suggests they follow Abba's way
Jesus loves sinners precisely because they realize they have problems
Since the universal healer is forgiveness he makes sure
They use the Lord's Prayer and repent daily
Charles Pierce and me are soul buddies because we have no question
About our sinner status
And for that reason both of us have approached truth
As little children
And received untold rewards

The US water wars, I fear, are only in their infancy

Water pipeline between Wyoming and Colorado a high cost venture | The Washington Independent: "It’s not exactly Perrier-pricey, but pretty damn close, according to opponents of the massive proposed Flaming Gorge pipeline project that would pump water out of the Green River in southwest Wyoming and suck it back over the Continental Divide to Colorado’s Front Range."

Just reading Veblen can infuse one with a sense of wellbeing

The Theory of the Leisure Class: III: "In order to gain and to hold the esteem of men it is not sufficient merely to possess wealth or power. The wealth or power must be put in evidence, for esteem is awarded only on evidence. And not only does the evidence of wealth serve to impress one's importance on others and to keep their sense of his importance alive and alert, but it is of scarcely less use in building up and preserving one's self-complacency. In all but the lowest stages of culture the normally constituted man is comforted and upheld in his self-respect by "decent surroundings" and by exemption from "menial offices". Enforced departure from his habitual standard of decency, either in the paraphernalia of life or in the kind and amount of his everyday activity, is felt to be a slight upon his human dignity, even apart from all conscious consideration of the approval or disapproval of his fellows."

TPM gives the debate to Mitt

Talking Points Memo | Breaking News and Analysis: "In my mind, whatever the polls say tomorrow, Mitt Romney came out of tonight with a strong argument that Rick Perry can't win a general election. Whether that shows up today or tomorrow or whenever, that's a thing of great value to someone in Romney's position. So again, I score the evening a strategic victory for Romney."

And I agree and must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the general tone save for Ron Paul's rather weak rants.

Some promising chemistry

New material shows promise for trapping pollutants: "Chemists at the University of California, Santa Cruz, have now developed a new type of material that can soak up negatively-charged pollutants from water. The new material, which they call SLUG-26, could be used to treat polluted water through an ion exchange process similar to water softening. In a water softener, sodium ions weakly attached to a negatively-charged resin are exchanged for the hard-water minerals, which are held more tightly by the resin. "

Find out who's paying your doctor for promotions

Dollars for Docs - ProPublica: "Drug companies have long kept secret details of the payments they make to doctors and other health professionals for promoting their drugs. The Grass Roots Church: The Grass Roots Church Part One:

"Atonement, regeneration, the Holy Ghost, the love of our enemies, the cross and resurrection, life in Christ and Christian discipleship-all these things have become so problematic and so remote that we hardly dare anymore to speak of them…. So our traditional language must perforce become powerless and remain silent, and our Christianity today will be confined to praying for and doing right by our fellow man. Christian thinking, speaking, and organization must be reborn out of this praying and this action." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer
