Put aside all involvements and suspend all affairs.

intimologies: Dogen and Peirce, phaneroscopy and zazen:

"From Dogen's Fukanzazengi (‘Instructions for Zazen’):

Put aside all involvements and suspend all affairs. Do not think good or bad. Do not judge true or false. Give up the operations of mind, intellect, and consciousness; stop measuring with thoughts, ideas, and views. Have no designs on becoming a Buddha."

Herodotus thinks wars = history

Herodotus meets Ellroy: "War is good. Ardys their boy is strong. He goes into battle at puberty and slays well. Gyges has learned that Barbarians can do well at Delphi. War compensates for everything."

A Writer's POV

3quarksdaily: "It seems an appropriate response to a new condition in writing: With an unprecedented amount of available text, our problem is not needing to write more of it; instead, we must learn to negotiate the vast quantity that exists. How I make my way through this thicket of information—how I manage it, parse it, organize and distribute it—is what distinguishes my writing from yours."

Al Sharpton is Right Where He Belongs

Some MBNBC voices are insufferable at times
I guess all voices are like that
But Al Sharpton is the new kid on the pundit blok
And in a few months he has become the best of the lot
I will value Lawrence when he sticks to what he knows and does not preach
I will value Rachel when she does not talk down or get too cute aka self-referential
I will value Chris about half the time these days
With Al I feel comfortable enlightened  informed and appreciative
Not a bad for a media pundit

Elizabeth Warren Has a Two Point Lead over Scott Brown

Daily Kos: MA-Sen: Elizabeth Warren takes the lead!:

"Elizabeth Warren: 46 (32)
Scott Brown (R-inc): 44 (47)
Undecided: (21)
(MoE: 3.5 ±%)

Elizabeth Warren has clearly had an extremely successful launch of her campaign. Her favorability rating in Massachusetts has risen from 21 percent favorable/17 percent unfavorable in June to 40 percent favorable/22 percent unfavorable now. Further, she is way, way ahead in the Democratic primary.

And this could be the start of a Congressional landslide that dumps the wingnuts and recalcitrant Dems.

Corrupt law enforcement handles stuff

Markman: A Film About Jesus:

"EXTERIOR. DESOLATE DESERT ROAD OUTSIDE LAS VEGAS. LATE AFTERNOON.

Tiger in his cruiser.

The Mayor's BIG BLACK LINCOLN pulls up alongside it.

Tiger and Mayor talk through open windows.

TIGER: Hey, I can handle WATTERS:. I can handle everything.

MAYOR: No.

TIGER: Whoa, your honor. The first one was your idea. I'm just cleaning up loose ends. I always clean up loose ends.

MAYOR: Jesus.

TIGER: The town's still ours, Mr. Mayor. That ain't gonna change. If I were you you know what I'd do. Quit. Lay low for a while. Let someone else take the heat.

The Mayor's paranoia gets a boost.

MAYOR: Who is David Markman?

TIGER: Just another asshole, Mr. Mayor.

MAYOR: Who the hell is he, Tiger?

TIGER: Ask Reverend Calmus Jones. Markman used to work for the Reverend.

MAYOR: Oh? Worked for him, really? Huh.

TIGER: Troublemaker, so I've heard. But nothing that can't be handled.

If we can't have car-free

A city of 20:

"Making 20 mph the default speed limit will:
Increase someone’s chance of survival when being hit by a car to 97%
Encourage walking and cycling
Make our streets more sociable
Reduce pollution and noise with less stop-start driving."

Culling the future redhead population

Sperm bank refusing redhead donors - The West Australian: ""I do not think you choose a redhead, unless the partner - for example, the sterile male - has red hair, or because the lone woman has a preference for redheads. And that's perhaps not so many, especially in the latter case.""

Not good news for for the rouge set.

Current Zoning Is Inimical To The Future

Abba is near to help fulfill your life

Abba's Way: 60 On The Good News:

"Abba is near to help fulfill your life,
And harmonize your life with others too
We live on an abundant planet home,
Which we have plundered, raped and torn in two.
The good news is that Abba is with us,
And Abba’s power in us redeems the world."

The moment Ron Paul lost whatever gravitas he had

Audience at tea party debate cheers leaving uninsured to die | The Ticket - Yahoo! News: ""Are you saying that society should just let him die?" Blitzer pressed Paul. And that's when the audience got involved. Several loud cheers of "yeah!" followed by laughter could be heard in the Expo Hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds in response to Blitzer's question."

Lots of libertarian contributions down the drain.

Alec Baldwin Good Going Hold Your Ground

Alec Baldwin boycotts Emmys after Rupert Murdoch owned station bans phone hacking skit | Mail Online: "Alec Baldwin announced he was not attending the Emmys on Twitter because he had a joke about newspaper phone-hacking cut.

The actor was furious when a skit about the News Of The World scandal was banned by bosses at Fox, which is broadcasting the event."

I regard Alec first as a fellow New Yorker. We do not cotton to the likes of Roger Ailes of FOX, a force of profound malevolence, all the more bothersome because seemingly unaware of its humongous hubris.

Can Netflix Bounce Back

Netflix CEO: I messed up - CBS News: "The DVD-by-mail service will now be called Qwikster. The company said that its streaming service will continue to be offered under the Netflix brand. While customers can still subscribe to both, the sites will no longer be integrated. The websites will have separate billing and ratings systems. Hastings elaborated on the changes in the accompanying YouTube video."

My experience was that they did not have enough good stuff on the streaming side. I have not had the time or inclination to pursue it. The mail thing seems to me cumbersome to the mildly disorderly person aka moi.

Austerity Will Kill Our Future

Economic Bleeding Cure - NYTimes.com: "What should be happening? The answer is that we need a major push to get the economy moving, not at some future date, but right now. For the time being we need more, not less, government spending, supported by aggressively expansionary policies from the Federal Reserve and its counterparts abroad. And it’s not just pointy-headed economists saying this; business leaders like Google’s Eric Schmidt are saying the same thing, and the bond market, by buying U.S. debt at such low interest rates, is in effect pleading for a more expansionary policy."

Posterior backwards as usual.
