I have set up a q and a node at Quora to address the issue of car free communities.
The question is
Would you like living in a car-free community, with all the amenities of a city within less than a mile walk?

Here is a comment I just left in response to one of the answers:
I am assuming that delivery will be massively expanded in the future and that all businesses will need to deliver locally and globally. I envision kiosks with one or two employees serving a specialized cluster of enterprises. The employees would have expertise and help facilitate both purchases and deliveries.
