Signs prior to words how the mind works (updated)

The mind seems a landslide in progress
too random and impossible to grasp

That we do grasp is a grace of sorts

Words save us
Signs start the process
of semiosis or logic
Signs tumble float arise come sideways
and fall down

And some achieve "reality" in words
The words are secondary to the sign

And then a few such pairs slip through
the sum of sign and word
add up somehow
and find a shelf in some protected place
called memory
The launching place of anything that's new
Gleaned sign-wise from what's breaking through
