"True the Vote" Suppression Reveals the Racist Impunity of the Koch Brothers

Voter Harassment, Circa 2012 - NYTimes.com: "True the Vote grew out of a Tea Party group in Texas, the King Street Patriots, with the assistance of Americans for Prosperity, a group founded by the Koch brothers that works to elect conservative Republicans. It has developed its own software to check voter registration lists against driver’s license and property records. Those kinds of database matches are notoriously unreliable because names and addresses are often slightly different in various databases, but the group uses this technique to challenge more voters.

In 2009 and 2010, for example, the group focused on the Houston Congressional district represented by Sheila Jackson Lee, a black Democrat. After poring over the records for five months, True the Vote came up with a list of 500 names it considered suspicious and challenged them with election authorities. Officials put these voters on “suspense,” requiring additional proof of address, but in most cases voters had simply changed addresses. That didn’t stop the group from sending dozens of white “poll watchers” to precincts in the district during the 2010 elections, deliberately creating friction with black voters."

It is time to bring the Kochs to justice
The Kochs are in violation of the law
The Justice Department should investigate True The Vote
The investigation will prove the Koch motive
is to target and intimidate Black voters
to elect GOP candidates sympathetic
to their Big Oil interests
The Kochs have their own brown shirts -
"True The Vote" a modern thug brigade
The Koch's name their operations for the opposite
of their invidious intentions
True the Vote is Suppress the Vote
and so forth Orwell-Huxley style
The Kochs barely mask their big oil motives
They get by on conspicuous philanthropy
as do many others whose actual operations
are harmful to community and future
The Kochs in 2012 have gone too far
They are not beyond the law
It is time to bring the Kochs to justice

"Sto Perigiali" One of the Surpassingly Best Tunes Theodorakis Has Written

A Setting for a Poem "Denial" Beloved by the Greek People by the Nobel Prize Winning Poet Giorgos Seferis

The remarkable video at the link above is of a performance of "Sto perigiali" Mario Frangoulis and Mikis Theodorakis in 2001.

Frangoulis and Theodorakis are joined by musicians, including two bouzouki players, and a very large audience that is completely familiar with the words. The audience joins in at Frangoulis' prompt.

This is my very favorite Theodorakis melody. Those who know Theodorakis only for his "Zorba" music are in for a treat. When I was in Athens in 1966, for a short period of study with Constantinos Doxiadis, I knew nothing of Theodorakis. But about five years later, my friend Irene Vassos sang "Sto perigiali" to us. I have never gotten the tune out of my mind.

Later, when Irene joined our group to form a travelling company performing "New Rain", I learned to pick out a …
