SmashwordsTake on Indie Authors Pricing

Smashwords: Does Agency Pricing Lead to Higher Book Prices?: " I trust now that whatever decision the DoJ makes, they'll make it with the full knowledge of how it will impact indie authors. As I expressed to the DoJ, indies are the future of publishing."

I just joined Smashwords to gain access to markets beyond Kindle. The piece above is of interest regarding the actual prices that make sense in today's marketplace. This is part of my continuing effort to determine how much success one can have as a writer with minimal expense. I say minimal because it took me little time to determine that it makes sense to pay for assistance in properly formatting texts. I checked the prices on four titles I have on Kindle and they were in the neighborhood of $20 on average. I also located a book cover person who produces covers I rather like for around $30 each. It will take several months to get this all going since I have most of my texts available on Kindle Select which is exclusive for 90 days. Kindle has been pretty dominant but other platforms are growing in power and I anticipate that Kindle will ultimately have about half the market but that the market will be for ALL books.

The (hopefully) true American character

The (hopefully) true American character
Combines self reliance with tolerance
Combines enterprise with helpfulness
Combines imagination with democracy
Combines reverence with non-idolatry
The true American wears nothing on his sleeve
And would not force another to believe

Betcha I know what Zimmerman listened to

Archetype of the buyer of bias tripe
The tripe sold by hate merchants every day
Underside of hellish culture ripe
To explode when the hellish chance holds sway

So saturated are we with outright hate,
even rising up to the level of elected officials,
that the worry and fear you see in these eyes
is merely the sign of a national malaise.

By and large luck is the source of wealth

By and large luck is the source of wealth
The hard work comes when the pot of gold's in sight
If you are poor you operate with stealth
Your chances do not match your appetite

Mitt is actually a rich guy who can't shut up

This op-ed is high flown but at the bottom
We are all this spectrum Mitt is too
It's just that he can't shut his trap
But then again the rich ain't me or you"

* Actually I was brought up at the edge of wealth and ran from it at an early age.
But the talkativeness never disappeared.

There's no magic health care solution period
We'll end up with two sides of some reform
Some not all the keyword and the real
We'll grouse and yell but that too is the norm
