Romney's OK But How Will Mormons Use Him?

Evangelical Christians’ Unease With Romney Is Theological - NYTimes.com: "“I don’t have any concerns about Mitt Romney using his position as either a candidate or as president of the United States to push Mormonism,” said Mr. Roberts, an author of “Mormonism Unmasked” and president of the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, who said he had no plans to travel to South Carolina before the voting. “The concern among evangelicals is that the Mormon Church will use his position around the world as a calling card for legitimizing their church and proselytizing people.”"

Interesting question since there is no more glaring example of American exceptionalism than the premise of Mormonism - namely its genesis in New York State.

My impression of Mormonism wan admittedly subjective. I went to the Tabernacle and heard some lovely music outside and hung around while congregant exited following the service. I felt I was in a sea of similar-looking folk from another planet. Come to think of it, they had the bearing and aura of ... Mitt! There was a mall across the street with a movie theater where the Blues Brothers was playing. It proved to be just the ticket to rid myself of the vibe.

I once had to do - also - with a refugee from Mormonism. But that is a whole other story. What is relevant is that there are a considerable number of folk who were Mormons and are no longer Mormons, as is also the case with all other religions incliuding Christianity.
