Thought is a thread of melody (Slide Show)

Charles Sanders Peirce on Thought as Melody - Associated Content from Yahoo! - associatedcontent.com: "Thought is a thread of melody running through the succession of our sensations. The emphasis is on the objective elements of consciousness. Thought is not a feeling. It contributes to our knowledge."

Yes and No - Think Meaningful Work Forget Pay

Are Jobs on Their Way to Becoming Obsolete? And Is That a Good Thing? | | AlterNet: "He argues that perhaps we're going about it backward when we call for jobs, that maybe it's not a bad thing that technology is replacing workers, and points out that actually, we do produce enough food and “stuff” to support the country and even the world—that, in fact, we produce too much “stuff.”"

We would do better to have guaranteed incomes and structure society so that there was a massive uptick in meaningful work opportunities. In other words divorce jobs and income and, yes, build a new economy.

Guardian also has a new US home page. News will all be digital within five years me thinks - if not sooner. And I rather hope the casualty is not newspapers as much as strident cable talkers. Not naming names anymore.

After a false start, the vessel steamed and sailed across the Atlantic. In Boston, Stanley went west by train and got off in Cleveland. There he negotiated a loan on the strength of his confident presence. Though threadbare, the fellow possessed authority, mainly conveyed by commanding speech. In the press, Stanley’s talk came to be described as Shakespearean."

Why Peirce?

Peircelets: It is true that we do generally reason correctly by nature.: "It is true that we do generally reason correctly by nature."

The interesting thing is that with Peirce we eliminate the notion of the one philosopher who has it all. The one correct theorist and so forth. We move instead to a worldview appropriate to the future and to the world of cyberspace. Many if not all participate in the same reality and try to reason within it. We stumble toward truth. We move forward. Life is continuity and community. Peirce is not THE philosopher. He is simply the prophet of a world n which there are no more THE anythings. The world is slow to hear.

It is true that we do generally reason correctly by nature.

The Fixation of Belief:

"The object of reasoning is to find out, from the consideration of what we already know, something else which we do not know. Consequently, reasoning is good if it be such as to give a true conclusion from true premisses, and not otherwise. Thus, the question of validity is purely one of fact and not of thinking. A being the facts stated in the premisses and B being that concluded, the question is, whether these facts are really so related that if A were B would generally be. If so, the inference is valid; if not, not. It is not in the least the question whether, when the premisses are accepted by the mind, we feel an impulse to accept the conclusion also. It is true that we do generally reason correctly by nature. But that is an accident; the true conclusion would remain true if we had no impulse to accept it; and the false one would remain false, though we could not resist the tendency to believe in it."

Sometimes you can only sing the truth

Original Biblical Songs: Come Now You Rich: "Come Now You Rich"

It is funny how everyone on all sides uses the Kumbaya word to express cynicism about the propects for better outcomes in this world. In point of fact a positive view based on universal values and nonviolent opposition to principalities and powers is the precise stance that any valid spiritual way mandates. When I hear from the lips of allegedly intelligent commentators such bilious disses, I lower my respect level a notch and determined to speak more insistently the antiphon to this negativity.

He will be the One Who Was Too Early

Obama's Way: An unsure nation awaits an Obama sign:

"But until he gets the truth embedded
In his mind and sees that it is as large and portentous
And dangerous as it is
He will be the One Who Was Too Early
Sad to say
So sad to say"

Read it all at the link above.

Do they really call it the green stream pipeline

ENI Chief in Tripoli: "The main aim of the trip was the establishment of the necessary measures to recover exports through the Green Stream pipeline, which may carry 10 bcm per year of gas from the Libyan coast to Italy.

During his visit Scaroni stated: “Our priority is the quick recover of Libyan gas export towards Italy, aiming to guarantee Italy with the security of supplies.”"

And I like the phrase security of supplies. More like fuel for future wars and global warming.

The World Is Beginning To Go The Right Way

Beyond Pattern Language: Quill Cuts To The Chase:

The world is beginning to go the right way
People know better now what must be done
Life must be more centered on personal growth and development
And less on pursuit of goals that do not deliver
Without face to face community
Without enough happening to engage the mind and heart
Without enough time to take care with oneself and others
We become burnt toast
And life is too short to end up burnt toast at the end of every day

Fantastic graphic illustrates the noxious effects of sprawl

World Population Concentrated | ArchDaily: "What would the world’s landscape look like if it were concentrated into one megalopolis? This graphic analysis illustrates the amount of land required to accommodate all 6.9 billion people based on the densities of cities across the globe. The differences illuminate the adverse affects of suburban sprawl."
