Bottom Line of the Dismal GOP Charade

The GOP continues its criminal assault on Americans
There is no other word to describe it
Just before Christmas they'll concede a few scraps to the masses
To save their asses
All this does is make the charade worse
Adding to the mountain of shame of their
Hostile action against the people
Against the country
Against the religion they claim to venerate

Democracy will tell them they are criminal come
Election time
Meanwhile they shame themselves
The nation
And the ideal of fairness that is the foundation of our highest values

The story is told of a Ugandan cleric beset by three terrorists.

Windows on The Bible: Fifty Eight We Are Already Dead:

"The story is told of a Ugandan cleric beset by three terrorists.  Just as they are about to shoot him dead, he asks for a chance to say a prayer before dying.

Taken aback by the man's strange calm the three killers stand back."

Abandonment to the world also requires a considerable degree of institutional flexibility.

The Grass Roots Church:

"Abandonment to the world also requires a considerable degree of institutional flexibility. Certainly the national denominations will need to become far more flexible if they are to play a part in the renewal movement. It may seem strange to suggest that renewal could take place without denominational leadership and/or cooperation. My only response is that if the denominations remain intransigent, set in their own ways, unwilling to give up cherished bureaucratic precedents, they will indeed have to be bypassed."

One object of the renewed Church is to produce a revolutionary laity.

The Grass Roots Church:

"If the Church were doing its job of chaplaincy and teaching adequately, it would not constantly have to set up professional institutions to perform the very tasks that a trained laity could accomplish far more adequately in the context of their normal existence. The present tendency is for the frustrated clergy to take over the Church's social-action responsibility. This only postpones the day when the laity will be recognized as the prophetic arm of the Christian community. Certainly one object of the renewed Church is to produce a revolutionary laity."

A Peircean notion of Occupy

Occupy Everything Q&A: Where can you get extended Occupy reflections:

'via Blog this'

The first is the SIGN or EXCITATION - people gathered more and more most everywhere.

The second could be BLUNT TRUTH - failure of past movements, opposition, lack of progress, entropic elements.

The Third is the process of continual refining from day to day and place to place until there are specific acts that occur and become SIGNS themselves.

Disclosure: Though I feel vastly uplifted by what I know of Peirce, I do not in the least claim expertise in dealing with his thought. What you see and infer is this text FWIW.

Where can you get extended Occupy reflections

Charles Peirce set store by fallibility

New Tao Posts: The Tao sees everything to completion:

Charles Peirce set store by fallibility
And by the work of the community
And spoke of all as continuity
And thus propounded good philosophy

The Tao sees everything to completion

The Tao sees everything to completion
All movement tends toward final form
We have no way of knowing what will come
Yet we advance toward it with each new morn

"Faith," the woman said. "I don't understand."

One Minute Christian: 2. A Goal-Setting Approach:

""Faith," the woman said. "I don't understand."

"Faith," said the pastor, "includes an ability to see something before it exists or is realized. All we do here is open this process to the love of God."

"That's not what I think of as faith," the man said. "I think of faith as the totality of what you believe to be true -- like the Christian faith, right?"

"Nope," the pastor shrugged. "You're talking about what's already happened. Beliefs. We affirm beliefs. Faith is future. It refers to what's coming into being.""

"The goals are set by each member," the pastor explained.

One Minute Christian: 2. A Goal-Setting Approach: "The man looked perplexed. "But you must do more than set goals. Besides what kind of goals are you setting if you don't end up with a program?"

"The goals are set by each member," the pastor explained. "Sometimes they're more personal, other times more social."

"What's the purpose?" the man asked.

"The over-all purpose is results," the pastor said with a smile. "Transformations. Triumphs. Little ones and big ones. Changed lives and a changed environment and a changed world."

"Is goal-setting all you do on Sundays?" the woman asked.

"Oh no," the pastor responded. "We have a basic understanding." She pointed to a small button on her dress. The button read:

Well-fed Christians Produce Miracles!"

Croesus blurted out the name: Solon, Solon Solon.

Herodotus meets Ellroy: How Croesus Escaped the Persian Funeral Pyre:

"Cyrus strained to hear Croesus as he blurted out the name: Solon, Solon Solon.

After a lot of back and forth, Cyrus gathered that Croesus now felt he should have listened to Solon and perhaps opt for a less warlike career. This evident penitence moved Cyrus to call off the execution and accept Croesus as a fellow royal."

I must reveal the story of Croesus' son

Herodotus meets Ellroy:

"I must reveal the story of Croesus' son, well cared for certainly, but mute. Croesus consulted the Pythian prophetess at Delphi who lost no time in declaring  that it was not a good idea to restore the boy's speech as that event would be fraught with peril.

And to prove it Croesus was soon surrounded by murderous Persians. They of the camels. The smell winners. The aromatic aggressors. Just when Croesus ready to give up the ghost his speechless boy emoted. The kid spoke. Get off my dad."

Then the bell rang.  The class did not move.

Manhattan Bully Wars:

"Then the bell rang.  The class did not move.
Maldbar wiped his brow with a plaid handkerchief. He glowered at Adam but said nothing.

Adam put the yardstick back and walked to the cloakroom. He gathered his windbreaker from its hook and put it on.  He walked back into the classroom.
Maldbar sat silently in his chair, his head inclined to the floor.
Panflick turned and walked out. "

Adam Panflick is my name. And no, I am not threatening you.

Manhattan Bully Wars:

""Adam Panflick is my name. And no, I am not threatening you. I am pointing to your heart. You are cruel. You are a bully. Take up another line of work. Get help."

Adam was on the portly side, a trifle large for his age. His father Melchezedek had concluded he was smart  and put him into Parousia a year ahead of himself.  There were tolerable woman teachers his first two years in grade's three and four, but two subsequent years of male teachers, particularly Maldbar, had been a disaster. Adam's response: Get no higher than a C- in anything. Fail math. Risk the tweaks, but no more.

Adam began to sway from side to side, slowly waving the yardstick like a languid baton. He observed himself as in a dream. A silenced Maldbar slumped into his chair."

We were all made with war inside our veins

Abba's Way: 55 On War:

We were all made with war inside our veins;
The power to fight and kill is not a dream.
Nor can war be defeated with our words;
War is the hell we know when reason fails.

Retrofitting and green won't cut it without the matrix

Beyond Pattern Language: Balancing Population Enhances Civilization:

'via Blog this'

Actually we could achieve the future with minimal movement
All it takes is a recognition that
A walkable community of some 10K persons
Is the core cell of a viable economic entity
Enabling a scale where everyone can have a local job or
Work at a distance via cyber means

Eliminate cars from existing areas
Begin to do the work from bottom up

Then will need the matrix
Tol turn these local cyber-communities
Into economic and ecological powerhouses

This matrix is the frame
Or skeleton of a community of 100,000
Creating it is the challenge of our time

A matrix to enable development of
Car-free walkable communities
A matrix that can deal with
Waste recycling and energy
All in one frame
Only this way can a hugely expensive transition to an
Ecologically sustainable world be achieved

Retrofitting and green won't cut it
Without the matrix

Charles Sanders Peirce called himself "a miserably unworthy follower of Jesus."

DO NOT FEAR THE DAWN

Charles Sanders Peirce
called himself
"a miserably unworthy
follower of Jesus."
(Houghton MS 318)
Yet this genius
did more than
any other to ground
logic and philosophy
in strict, scientific
method.
Like Peirce,
Triadic Philosophy
recognizes fallibility
in all lives everywhere.
But Triadic Philosophy
shares Peirce's
belief in the
gradual move of humankind
toward progress.
Triadic Philosphy
transforms religion
into an ethical,
universal spirituality,
and science into an
ethical pursuit whose
aim is aesthetic realization.

Triadic Philosophy
is a clarion call
to imbue science
with an aesthetic
sense worthy of
our common quest
for truth and beauty.

The "fruits" by which we are known rise from our values

The "fruits" by which we are known rise from our values
Forgiveness is such a fruit
It is the product of tolerance and helpfulness
Of democracy and non-idolatry
These four are the fundamental values of Abba's Way
And by inference the fundamental values of the teaching
And the example of Jesus
I spell this out because fruits differ from values
Values are the inevitable result of having a will and living from day to day
We are our values
The values noted above are inherently good when lodged within a person
The modify each other
The anchoring in non-idolatry
Enables an iconoclasm that is able to see through
many of the hypocrisies of lesser value systems
The negative results of life stem from the willed value
Of envy whose fruits are revenge violence and self-loathing
It is helpful to have a grip on the primacy of values
And on the fruits by which they are known
