Explaining The Supreme Court Texas Ruling

Redistricting in Texas - NYTimes.com: "At the oral argument, one justice wanted to ignore Section 5, others wanted to limit its impact on the Section 2 lawsuit, others still insisted that Section 5 could not be ignored. The justices chastised the San Antonio court for not showing enough deference to the Texas plan, but there is clear evidence that it embodies what the Justice Department in the Section 5 lawsuit calls “intentional discrimination” — and should not be allowed to prevail."

This editorial explains things a bit. In essence the Court appears to be siding with the very worst aspects of political gerrymandering. Translate that and you get Hispanics denied fair representation. And a handshake between Scalia and Thomas. Sorry to be so blunt.
