The Sprawl Versus Nature Fallacy - Get Wise

The typical environmental rap pits nature against sprawlGet wiseWe are not about going back to nature Or even assuming that we are to leave the natural world as it isWe are in fact destined to make use of all the resources that existWhen we argue against fossil fuel useOr sprawling over farm lands with identical developmentsIt is because such use and such sprawl is  a mindless and harmful use of natureWe will build our car-free cyber communities to be advanced technologicallyTo use nature inventivelyAnd in the bargain to return land to its natural stateBecause it makes sense for us to do soNot because we venerate natureNature is neutralIt is we who determine whether it is ravaged or notAnd how we intend to control it

If Catholics were pro-life they would oppose war

mildredpurse: Mildred Purse Wants to Be Pope:

"Fiire the Bishops and sell the Vatican and contribute the savings and proceeds to Planned Parenthood"

'via Blog this'
If Catholics were pro-life they would oppose war, capital punishment, torture and economic stratification. They would line up for tolerance and democracy, for helpfulness and non-idolatry. Since many Catholics support these things, perhaps they can convince their leaders to go with the flow. Or work for their swift removal from office.

The Church must be obedient not to human desires but to the Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Grass Roots Church: The most creative laymen are presently (in many cases) on the fringes: "Once the laity realizes that it is within their power as trustees, officers, and voting members to work at the grass roots for constructive, ecumenical renewal, once the laity realizes that there is no other force in the Church that can truly do this job, once the laity sees the possibilities for action inherent in the cooperative-ministry approach which we shall outline-once these things occur, the tide of irrelevance may turn, and a truly exciting movement may develop.

Even if there were no unrest within the seminaries, on the campuses, among both the ministry and the laity, even if the outsider's case against church attendance is discounted, the imperative for Protestant renewal would remain. For in the final analysis the Church must be obedient not to human desires but to the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Watch this great hidden gift become ever more manifest in your life

Windows on The Bible: "Mine these texts to help ground this understanding in your soul: Romans chapter 6, Collossians chapters 2 and 3 and Galatians 2:20.

Your oneness of God is by grace and by your repentance and acceptance of God's closeness, God's forgiveness and God's work of restoration of oneness with you in the Holy Spirit.

Affirm this oneness and watch this great hidden gift become ever more manifest in your life."

This is no church. It's a den of thieves

Markman: A Film About Jesus:

"He reaches the top of the stairs and places both hands squarely on top of the ELECTRONIC BIBLE. With a huge effort, he rips it from its moorings. Sparks fly from it.

The STUDIO CAMERAS take in the whole scene, broadcasting it out to the country.

Shouts of alarm fill the huge church.

Tiger is running for the pulpit.

David holds the Electronic Bible above his head. He turns with it and looks down threateningly at the panicking audience.

DAVID: This is no church. It's a den of thieves."

Global Sprawl Everything Human Beings Do Not Need

GLOBAL SPRAWL PDF SOURCE
"Urban sprawl, a trend long associated with North American cities, is fast engulīŦng many developing countries where real estate developers are pushing a “world class lifestyle”. In many developing countries, urban sprawl comprises two main, contrasting types of development in the same city: one is characterized by large peri-urban areas with informal and illegal patterns of land use. This is combined with a lack of infrastructure, public facilities and basic services, and often is accompanied by little or no public transport and by inadequate access roads. The other is a form of “suburban sprawl” in which residential zones for high- and middle-income groups and  highly-valued commercial and retail complexes are well-connected by individual rather than public transport."

Occupy Movement Working Away, Prepping for Spring

Occupy Movement Regroups, Laying Plans for the Next Phase - NYTimes.com: "On any night in New York City, which remains a hub of the movement, a dozen working groups on issues like “food justice” and “arts and culture” meet in a Wall Street atrium, and “general assemblies” have formed in 14 neighborhoods. Around the country, small demonstrations — often focused on banks and ending foreclosure evictions — take place almost daily.

If the movement has not produced public leaders, some visible faces have emerged.

“I’m finally going to make it to the dentist next week,” said Dorli Rainey, a Seattle activist. “I’ve had to cancel so many times. It’s overwhelming.”

Ms. Rainey, who is 85 and was pepper-sprayed by the police in November, has been fully booked for months. On a recent Thursday, she joined 10 people in Olympia, Wash., who were supporting a State Senate resolution to remove American soldiers from Afghanistan. "

Bishops join wingnut right and further seal their doom

Bishops Reject White House’s New Plan on Contraception - NYTimes.com: "The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops — which has led the opposition to the plan — said in a statement late Friday that the solution offered by the White House to quell a political furor was “unacceptable and must be corrected” because it still infringed on the religious liberty and conscience of Catholics."

'via Blog this'

Where are these people? I'll tell you where. In a coffin with a hammer nearby. We are living in the time of the death of religion. It is being facilitated by predictable retrograde actions such as this. The only religion that will survive is religion purged of a desire to enforce by governance what it cannot elicit by persuasion. (The capacity to convince all Catholic women to give up contraception would represent fair persuasion.) The wave of the future is spirituality and each manifestation of authoritarianism by people such as these bishops hammers another nail…

Anomalies of self-sufficiency

Even Critics of Safety Net Increasingly Depend on It - NYTimes.com: "There is little poverty here in Chisago County, northeast of Minneapolis, where cheap housing for commuters is gradually replacing farmland. But Mr. Gulbranson and many other residents who describe themselves as self-sufficient members of the American middle class and as opponents of government largess are drawing more deeply on that government with each passing year."

'via Blog this'

It is probably resentment of this dependency that fuels anger among the recipients of aid. To attack it otherwise courts more anger. A simple acknowledgment of the many ways self-sufficiency and governance are in harmony will show that even the vaunted corporations that trumpet self-sufficiency depend more on government than do the poorest of the poor. The reform of society will not ride on an either or but on the mix of things needed and the scale of how things are distributed and the way things are moved.
