Boehner has always been impotent

Capitol's Tremors Unsettle White House, Too - NYTimes.com: "The White House could be left without a negotiating partner in a chamber full of uncompromising conservatives, on the debt issue and others in coming months that ultimately will demand bipartisan action."

This is not his fault. He has been blindsided by a group that is unable to give. It wants the whole kahuna now. The balanced budget. The massive drop in spending. And it does not care if we don't pay what we already owe. He will either face it down in pure power terms. Or be displaced. Ultimately some Republicans will affirm whatever is cooked up and the passage of the new ceiling will rest on whether these Republicans and the Democrats in the House end up with a majority. Blame will be liberally spread but the GOP will receive the lion's share. The damage is being done as we speak.

It could all come down to a one page bill

NYT: Boehner issues warning to debt dissenters - politics - The New York Times - msnbc.com: "WASHINGTON — An increasing number of House members yielded to Speaker John Boehner’s blunt command to line up Wednesday behind his budget bill even as his staff moved frantically to alter it in an attempt to resolve the looming fiscal crisis. Congressional leaders alternately voiced optimism, determination and a haggard frustration as they struggled to make both the dollars and the votes add up."

There is no need to resolve everything. Just to raise the limit. All the rest is posturing on both sides. Posturing is good to soften the country up for austerity and a bit of fairness. MORE

AP has read the situation well

President's debt offer: risky but could be win-win - Yahoo! News I would call it win win win. Obama wins if the deal passes. He wins if it loses. He wins in 2012 either way. And every resistance from the GOP from nnw on will be a market buster and a source of growing national censure.

Dumbest budget solution of all

Amend Constitution to balance budgets? No, experts say | McClatchy: "But experts left, right and center warn that however appealing the idea may sound, it's highly impractical in reality. And it would make economic crises such as the one in 2008 much worse by tying the government's hands when intervention is needed most."

This is the ballpark where we will win this thing

Ex-Gang of Six members to unveil debt plan to other senators Tuesday - CNN.com: "'We're presenting the progress we've made,' said Sen. Kent Conrad, D-North Dakota, the Budget Committee chairman. 'It's a comprehensive approach that reforms entitlements, reforms the revenue code, cuts spending, is balanced and is in the range of $3.6 (trillion) to $3.7 trillion.'" What a free for all, but it will make sense when it's over. And people will scratch their heads and say, Isn't this what the President was for all along? And Howdy Doody Cantor will sprain his wrist trying to slap himself on the back.

All coming down just as we said

Congressional GOP Leaders Slowly Convincing Newer Members of Importance of Raising Debt Ceiling - Reid Wilson - NationalJournal.com: "Privately, House Republicans have been driving home the message that a failure to increase the debt ceiling would be a disaster. Sources said Boehner has been 'aggressive,' in one aide's words, in articulating the need to reach a deal." So now it is suffer the little Congresskids to come unto Papa John and Papa Mitch. In the end this will probably get done because the ignorance among the opponents of the measure is so monumental and the consequences to their careers are considerable. There is no heroism in idiocy.
