Truth in one sentence

Hendrik Hertzberg: Give ’em Hell, Barry? : The New Yorker: "Helping the country is unlikely to be enough of an incentive for Republicans to pass a bill, any bill, that Obama supports, even a bill, like this one, that is assembled mostly from refurbished spare parts collected from their own ideological warehouse."

Therefore proceed to A Democratic Pass This Bill Strategy

Jobs are not obsolete - they will be different

Are jobs obsolete? - CNN.com: "New technologies are wreaking havoc on employment figures -- from EZpasses ousting toll collectors to Google-controlled self-driving automobiles rendering taxicab drivers obsolete. Every new computer program is basically doing some task that a person used to do. But the computer usually does it faster, more accurately, for less money, and without any health insurance costs."

My notion of a future job is a zillion kiosks in a zillion cyber-communities (car free gatherings of 10K persons more or less) with each kiosk operating 24/7 requiring four full time managers and dealing with one explicit thing using large screens and being a gathering place for people interested in whatever that thing is whether learning to read or finding one's blood pressure or studying history or getting a job.

Millennials have every right to be disinterested

Are millennials cut out for this job market? - CNN.com

It's a good sign not to be interested in this job market
Work itself as a commuter nine to five reality is an absurd way to achieve aims that are not in themselves a form of make work
Supercomputers could do what a thousand folk in cubicles do if they were properly mandated
We have tried to fit cyberspace to reality when we should be doing the reverse
The wave of the future should be living and integrating what people do with the way they want to live
People should be able to contribute to a job what they will to contribute
The rules of jobs should be made more specific and more a matter of individual agreement about hours and such
The notion that one size of anything fits more than one ignores the will to personalization that is at the center of consciousness
I would not want to work to sustain a world of sprawl big oil and overpriced education and construction
I would not want to do infrastructure unless it tended toward the car free
We are at the beginning of a time when all our attention to the micro will inevitably start to affect the macro
When that happens nothing will remain the same and jobs might just be fun
Not to mention productive and helpful to others

Time to rethink working hours and jobs and how to distribute them fairly to all

Yglesias | ThinkProgress: "We need shorter hours because it is unrealistic to count on growth in GDP to absorb all this current and future “surplus” labor. Rich countries just never grow that rapidly. So the austerity economics that says work longer and retire later has it exactly wrong." Agreed.

Mitt's job creation record in Massachusetts was atrocious

Mildred Purse

It is as if jobs are a disease. Mitt avoided generating all but a trickle for Massachusetts when he was Governor.
