The key to smarter construction in the future

The key to smarter construction in the future is building  a matrix that can hold any number of modular elements
The matrix would be the conductor of water energy and waste for the entire complex of spaces that it holds
Spaces held within the matrix would be made of mass-produced smart surfaces
What we call walls and floors and ceilings and roofs
These surfaces would be thinner than walls but vastly smarter
Soundproof fireproof collapsible and movable with ease
Future communities would combine work play and residence
Be large enough to enable viable businesses to sprout
And with their matrix be largely eco-sufficient
When designers and architects wake to this positive evolution
We will see that with this understanding a thousand flowers can bloom

Jesus did away with the devil (aka Satan) in Mark

Time for me to put on my theological threads so idiots like Santorum
will have to deal with the actual Biblical text
I don't have any theological threads
But I am familiar with the gospel of Mark
The earliest and most authoritative text when it comes to Satan

Jesus explains in Mark the circumstances in which Satan is at an end
It is so contrary to Santorum and the stance of the GOP that it almost seems  written to show them up
Jesus says a house divided cannot stand
When the division ends Satan is done

Jesus was in the business of defeating Satan
Whether you, wrongly, take this literally
Or, rightly, take it as truth that has to do with the psyche of humankind
The verdict is that
long ago the excuse of blaming Satan for human fallibility was removed from the table
It was removed by Jesus
Jesus brought responsibility to the table and we have rejected it ever since

It takes an ignorant public and a woefully theologically-deprived church
to give credence to the notion of Satan today

Do I hear an Amen .... anywhere?

THE TEXT IN MARK

[23] And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
[24] And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
[25] And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
[26] And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

Barry Eisler Walks Away From $500,000 Deal to Self-Pub' - eBookNewser "Publishers have naturally conflated the specifics of their business model with the generalities of the industry they're in. As you say, they're not in the business of delivering books by paper-they're in the business of delivering books. And if someone can do the latter faster and cheaper than they can, they're in trouble."

Drones all over us - waiting for the first mega-accident

Drones With an Eye on the Public Cleared to Fly - NYTimes.com: "But while businesses, and drone manufacturers especially, are celebrating the opening of the skies to these unmanned aerial vehicles, the law raises new worries about how much detail the drones will capture about lives down below — and what will be done with that information. Safety concerns like midair collisions and property damage on the ground are also an issue.

American courts have generally permitted surveillance of private property from public airspace. But scholars of privacy law expect that the likely proliferation of drones will force Americans to re-examine how much surveillance they are comfortable with."

'via Blog this'

I can't wait to watch the GOP wrestle with this one. Private enterprise. Invasion of privacy. Mega safety concerns. Ironical if the drone photographed Issa on his own turf. This is an invitation to mayhem you won't believe. I can just see the video - Revenge Drone!!!!

The global warming revolution from pole to pole and sea to sea

The global warming revolution from pole to pole and sea to sea
Steals up on us as we drive our cars but still and all we don't quite see
The global warming we deny
Might help set most of this world free

Yes ladies and gentlemen there is this matter of irony in history first discovered by Reinhold Niebuhr and substantiated by Jon Stewart and Tina Fay

Stuff about the economy you do not want to hear

Under a Greenish Umbrella - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com: "The idea that we can continue - under a greenish umbrella - as we have is questionable
1. The massive success of the clunker program is an eerie indication that truth is not getting through.

2. Our recession will only recur if we do not move from our concept of metrosprawl to the creation of human settlements based on principles articulated by Christopher Alexander in "A Pattern Language."

3. Settlements dense enough to enable flourishing businesses, car-free enough to get pre-diabetics back on their feet.

4. The era of a growth (sic) economy is over."

We leave agribusiness In the dust

In My World There is No Fast Food - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com:

"In my world there is no fast food
The ghouls of advertising mutely
Cease
Their murderous assault
Upon our bodies
The metrosprawl suburban tracts
Are all
Ploughed under
To make room for
Planting
What God creates for free

We leave
Agribusiness
In the dust"

Incarceration: Updates on A Travesty

Breaking the Addiction to Incarceration: Weekly Highlights » Blog of Rights: Official Blog of the American Civil Liberties Union: "Today, the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate of any country in the world. With over 2.3 million men and women living behind bars, our imprisonment rate is the highest it’s ever been in U.S. history. And yet, our criminal justice system has failed on every count: public safety, fairness and cost-effectiveness. Across the country, the criminal justice reform conversation is heating up. Each week, we feature our some of the most exciting and relevant news in overincarceration discourse that we’ve spotted from the previous week. Check back weekly for our top picks."

'via Blog this'

Incarceration in America is a scandal. The business of jails is a scandal. The way that we educate the least is a scandal. The bias in enforcement and justice is a scandal. We need to end the scandal and only a wave of national outrage will do the job. Get enlightened at the url above.

Pinterest shows how easy it is to eclipse what is out there

How Pinterest Is Becoming the Next Big Thing in Social Media for Business - Business - Small business - Entrepreneur.com - msnbc.com: "Pinterest, an online bulletin board for your favorite images, launched in 2010 and is already experiencing wild growth. The site registered more than 7 million unique visitors in December, up from 1.6 million in September. And it's driving more traffic to company websites and blogs than YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn combined, according to a recent report from Cambridge, Mass.-based content-sharing site Shareaholic."

Pinterest shows how easy it is to eclipse what is out there. All that is necessary is the code that will enable individuals to most easily "sign" to the whole inhabited earth. My Pinterest Page in its infancy.

More on the Matrix That Really Matters

ShortFormContent at Blogger: The Matrix That Really Matters Has Not Been Built Yet:

'via Blog this'

Infrastructure cannot be "repaired" if we have no idea of what we want
Suppose we want something beyond cars and commuting
Beyond detached houses built for size
Suppose we want walkable communities with enough population to enable viable local businesses
A way to work and be educated at or near home
Zoning that integrates everything in a sane and rational way

The miracle of cyberspace means we can choose where and how we live and move and have our being
Once the mind is liberated from resignation to our current sprawl culture
we can see a cyber-community as a giant step beyond what we now have

We could mass produce lego like components for the construction of modular units of space
These could supply the world
We could create a giant matrix that would serve 5-10K
Accommodating myriad forms built from these components
Enabling technological macro elements that no individual could afford
For recycling,
Energy generation
Enjoyable face to face living
A reformed education system
The integration of cyber-capacity with every element of socio-cultural existence

Cyber-communities would be safe from most weather emergencies
They would enable new economies
New jobs
New mobility

Venting Centers Needed Worldwide - A New Business

More than 70 Killed in Egyptian Soccer Mayhem - NYTimes.com: "The mayhem also focused renewed attention on the potential savagery of organized groups of die-hard fans, known here as ultras, who have emerged as a volatile component of Egyptian politics in the year of turmoil since Mr. Mubarak left power.

Previously apolitical, the ultras were known for their rowdy behavior, obscene chants and apparently endless enthusiasm for clashes with the often-brutal Egyptian police. “ACAB,” one group of Cairo ultras likes to spray-paint on city walls, standing for, “All Cops are Bastards.”"

'via Blog this'

While world attention is on stampede violence and ultra behavior,  create venting opportunities. All people need to vent.

Venting can be done with a pillow.  But I can see venting centers becoming as profitable as tanning salons.

You walk in and have choices. Smash the boss. Smash the world. Smash anything and everything. Fifteen minutes of smashing. Get it out of your system. Scream. Lash. Seethe. Yell. Emote. Exhibit yourself. Get a video made. Upload it. Pay to watch people vent. Vent world!

Will Campbell says we're all bastards but God loves us anyway. Get thee to a pillow. Get thee to a venting center. Millions of new jobs. I am a post-vent counselor. I am an anger coach. I make vent targets.

Change for the good takes place s in the heart alone. Not in a herd.

Melaleuca funding Romney Super PAC

Who’s Financing the ‘Super PACs’ - Graphic - NYTimes.com:

'via Blog this'

Check out the info above to find out what various high rolling companies are rifling their profits to. Melaleuca is an online business I used to affiliate with. As I recall it was the height of the make money anvil chorus that swept the country during the W Credit Card War period. I this see it as an aspect of a see no evil culture. We have a lot to get revealed. I repent of my past involvement.

Cain and Colbert got their Super PAC money with donations of less than $200. The rest are clearly beholden to their one percent givers.

UPDATE: Rachel has evidently noticed this connection. I remember the "secerecy" meme.

Best Comment on Allen West's Pathetic Diatribe

Allen West To Liberals: Get the Hell Out Of The U.S. - Digg: "Requesting that all those that oppose your view leave the country disregards the importance of political discourse and is the most un-American thing I've ever heard. This is not how the majority of Americans go about their day-to-day business, simply saying, "Get the hell out!" to anyone who disagrees with them; the rest of us have to act like adults and try to work with people."

Newt has Romney over a barrel

Gingrich Criticizes Romney for Investments He Says Profited From Florida Foreclosures - NYTimes.com: "12:55 p.m. | Updated MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Look for Newt Gingrich to abandon his above-it-all “presidential” tone at Thursday’s debate and come out rip-roaring about Mitt Romney’s investments that, Mr. Gingrich contends, profited from home foreclosures in Florida."

'via Blog this'

OK. Mitt has investments in the foreclosure business in Florida. Newt is using that fact to rev up for the debate. He knows CNN will not tell the audience to sit on its hands. Mitt turns green on camera when he is being laid upon a barrel. Tonight it looks as though it will get a push. The real fear Romney should have is losing by a big margin.

Mitt and Bush One Share A Core Problem

Hunting, Dear Sir? Delighted! - NYTimes.com:

"Poppy drinks martinis; Mitt drinks chocolate milk and Coke Zero. But 41 and the man he endorsed to be 45 share the gee-whiz language, hokey humor, awkward stage presence, sense of entitlement and noblesse oblige, need to break away from powerful patriarchs and prove themselves in business, gentlemanly demeanor that masks surprisingly sharp elbows, and the willingness to make whiplash switches from blue-blooded positions to red-state ones, leaving everyone to wonder: “Who is this guy at his core?”"

'via Blog this'

I would rather have four years of Obama getting things done competently than four years of blah and behind the scenes puppetry. Fact is whoever wins will bring much of Congress with him, so the contest is about the whole kahuna not the man. 2012 needs to be the GOP's Waterloo.

Six Agencies Turned into One

President Barack Obama Proposes Merging Agencies - WSJ.com: "Mr. Obama said the consolidation would make it easier for business to navigate the federal bureaucracy, putting several agencies whose primary goal is the promotion of U.S. business, both at home and abroad, under one roof. In this case, "six isn't better than one," Mr. Obama said at the White House."

"The online activist group known as Anonymous, which has targeted opponents of the Occupy Wall Street movement and businesses that stopped providing services to WikiLeaks, has set its sights on a new adversary: media executives.

In protest of antipiracy legislation currently being considered by Congress, the group has posted online documents that reveal personal information about Jeffrey L. Bewkes, chairman and chief executive of Time Warner, and Sumner M. Redstone, who controls Viacom and the CBS Corporation. "

Education is the real job creator, not Bain

The Value of Teachers - NYTimes.com: "Some Republicans worry that a federal role in education smacks of socialism. On the contrary, schools represent a tough-minded business investment in our economic future. And, increasingly, we’re getting solid evidence of what reforms may help: teacher evaluations based on student performance, higher pay and prestige for good teachers, dismissals for weak teachers."

All about YouTube on one page

Will Robert Kyncl and YouTube Revolutionize Television? : The New Yorker: "I wondered if there was any danger to the brand, in moving so decisively from the user-generated anarchy of the old YouTube to YouTV, where control and surveillance are centralized in the heart of the Googleplex. In its attempt to increase watch time, attract more viewers, and provide advertisers with as customized a customer as possible, YouTube risks alienating its core constituency—Chad Hurley’s “everyday people.” MySpace suffered steep reductions in traffic when it altered the user experience with redesigns and increased ads. Netflix lost more than half its value in the stock market and provoked a customer revolt after announcing its plan to separate the streaming and the DVD sides of the business. It’s possible that YouTube could make a similar mistake, by offering bigger, more professional niches than its amateur-niche audience wants right now. For all the information that new-media companies have about their customers, they can still fundamentally misjudge when those customers are ready for change."
